Not just wines, but also spirits. "Cantine Aperte," the traditional end-of-May wine tourism event, offers opportunities for visits and tastings not only at wineries but also at distilleries. In the heart of the Piedmontese hills of Monferrato, the historic grappa distillery Mazzetti d’Altavilla is participating in the series of events promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino (Wine Tourism Movement) on Saturday, May 24th and Sunday, May 25th , welcoming enthusiasts and the curious to its headquarters atop Altavilla Monferrato. The goal is to raise awareness among consumers and the curious about the production processes, tasting techniques, food pairings, and many other aspects of spirits. The Casa della Grappa, located atop the Altavilla Monferrato hill, will beopen Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm, offering the opportunity to taste spirits such as grappa, liqueurs, brandy, gin, whisky, bitters, bitter liqueurs, and fruit liqueurs. Guided tours are available on both days, offering access to the Historic Park with the La Rotonda (1808) and the Garden, as well as the Piazzale delle Vinacce, the Distillery, the Aging Cellar, and the Galleria della Grappa , following the journey from the materia prima to the final packaging of this Piedmontese spirit. The tour also includes guided tasting sessions, allowing visitors to learn the most useful aspects for responsibly tasting Italian-made spirits. Food lovers will have the opportunity to savor the spring menu offered by the Materia Prima, optionally sampling the tasting menu of culinary specialties and spirits.
To capture all the sensory nuances of pairing Piedmontese flavors and spirits, two innovative guided tasting experiences dedicated to gin and grappa are coming to the Cantine Aperte weekend. The "Gin Tasting" will allow you to discover Mazzetti d’Altavilla through three new and surprising tastings paired with savory creations by the Chef of the Materia Prima. The "Grappe Verticale" will offer an original tasting experience (beginning at 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday) designed to reveal the aromas and flavors of the quintessential Italian spirit paired with some typically Piedmontese delicacies.
The Gin Tasting, Grappa Vertical Tasting, and Guided Tours of the Distillery, as well as lunches and dinners at Materia Prima , require advance reservations (subject to availability), which can be made independently through the company website, in the visit.mazzetti.it.
