Sunday 7 October Mazzetti d’Altavilla, the oldest distillery in the North-West, welcomes enthusiasts to present the new face of the Piedmontese distillate
As the distillation of the pomace begins, Piedmontese grappas, wine distillates, and liqueurs are preparing to take center stage, showcasing their dazzling modernity through the many sensory pairings and blending ideas that will be on display on Sunday, October 7th at Mazzetti d’Altavilla. On this day, the region's most historic grappa shop will open its doors at the top of the Altavilla Monferrato hill from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm to offer the " Grappe Aperte " event (part of the " Piemonte Grappa " program, promoted by the Consorzio Tutela Grappa del Piemonte and Grappa di Barolo ), an authentic journey through the UNESCO landscape of the Piedmont hills, exploring the flavors and new trends of the local spirit. Throughout the day, guided tours will depart at regular intervals to discover the distillation process. They will include visits to the production facilities in operation, where visitors can breathe in the aromas of the freshest Piedmontese pomace cooked in the scenic stills, and to the Barricaia , dominated by an evocative light and the scents of the refined wood essences in which the Grappa is refined and "aged." Celebrating the start of the 172nd year of uninterrupted distillation , visitors will also be able to visit the Galleria della Grappa , with its ancient relics, which will lead to the Grappa Store , where visitors will find a "rich distillate of moments to savor and enjoy." Here, visitors can enjoy tastings of Grappa, Distillates, Liqueurs, Zuccherini Spiritosi , and the many delicacies of Casa Mazzetti.
Special pairings will also be available: with Caffe Alberici of Alessandria, offering original coffee blends, and with the world of mixology. In the afternoon, the roving Il Confessionale , offering innovative drinks using Piedmontese spirits to raise awareness of local mixology.
For art lovers, the Votive Chapel "La Rotonda" will be open for visits, with the possibility of in-depth commentary via audio guide. This splendid architectural gem dating back to 1808 contains the evocative, expertly illuminated underground cross. The Historic Park surrounding the Votive Chapel will be the ideal place for moments of relaxation and peace amidst history and nature.
Finally, fine dining will also take center stage: the Casa Mazzetti Cafeteria will offer delicious breakfasts , while the in-house restaurant "Materia Prima" will host a themed tasting menu lunch (€30, excluding wine) , subject to availability, featuring daring sensory pairings of traditional specialties and spirits. Guests can also enjoy a "quick" lunch featuring a typical dish and water or a glass of wine for just €8.
The event will take place at the historic headquarters of Mazzetti d’Altavilla – Distillatori dal 1846, atop the Altavilla Monferrato hill at Viale Unità d'Italia 2. Doors are open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and guided tours and tastings are completely free. Throughout the event (which is open in all weather conditions), a reception desk will be open at the entrance to the headquarters, where you can ask for any information about the day's program.
The “Grappe Aperte” event coincides with the opening of the distilling season, which will bring a rich “Autumn at Casa Mazzetti”: until Christmas, the venue will host guided tours with sensory tastings, themed or Christmas-themed lunches and dinners, business and leisure events, Saturdays and Sundays at the grappa shop with tours and pairings, and special events for “Chocolate in Monferrato” and “Halloween in the Distillery”.
