Mazzetti d’Altavilla, in the heart of Monferrato, opens its doors to discover the spirits
Piedmontese with visits and tastings, on the 180th anniversary of the company
The Golosaria festival among the Castles of Monferrato will return to fire up the engines of events on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May , and spirits will also be protagonists thanks to the two days of visits and events at Mazzetti d’Altavilla, the historic grappa factory located at the top of Altavilla Monferrato which this year celebrates 180 years of uninterrupted activity.
For the Golosaria public – ready to crowd the villages of Alessandria and Asti for the weekend dedicated to food and wine, art and culture – the “Casa della Grappa” will open the doors of the ancient Monastery (now the company's headquarters) from 9.30am to 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday) with the possibility of informed tastings of spirits such as grappa, liqueurs, brandy, whisky, bitters, gin, bitters and fruit in liqueur.
An experiential opportunity is provided by the guided tours (upon reservation) organised on both days to access, in addition to the Historic Park with the Votive Chapel La Rotonda (1808) and the Garden, also the Piazzale delle Vinacce, the Distillery, the Aging Cellar and the Galleria della Grappa taking a 360-degree journey from the materia prima to the final packaging of the Piedmontese distillate. A tour that also includes moments of guided tasting, being able to learn the most correct tasting techniques and the most suitable glasses to best appreciate young and aged spirits. New this year will also be the possibility of being able to take shorter tours of the Barricaia completely free of charge, upon reservation and subject to availability. Furthermore, on Sunday 17 May there will be the exceptional opportunity to taste Italian cigars in collaboration with the ADT Club between 11am and 1pm and between 3pm and 5pm.
The same format, complete with free guided tours of the barrel cellar, will be repeated at the Mazzetti d’Altavilla on Saturday, May 30th and Sunday, May 31st during Cantine Aperte, an event promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino (Wine Tourism Movement), in which Mazzetti d’Altavilla.
