Stop at Mazzetti d’Altavilla, in the heart of Monferrato, to discover the spirits of the historic Piedmontese grappa factory with visits and sensory tastings
Among the symbols of Monferrato and its food and wine attractions, spirits also have a starring role in the 2024 edition of Golosaria among the Castles of Monferrato , which will stop on Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, May 12th at Mazzetti d’Altavilla, the historic grappa shop located at the top of Altavilla Monferrato.
In the "Casa della Grappa" the spotlight will be on an ancient art—distillation—that looks to the modern national and international beverage scene, becoming a tourist attraction for the Golosaria crowd, ready to flock to the villages of Alessandria and Asti for a weekend dedicated to food, wine, art, and culture, rediscovering the most iconic traits of Monferrato culture. In addition to wines, distilled spirits are an integral part of local specialties, being an expression of the territory's native grape varieties. What's on the agenda for Golosaria visitors at Mazzetti d’Altavilla? First of all, the ancient Monastery (now the company's headquarters) will be open for two days (from 9am to 12:30pm and from 3pm to 6:30pm on Saturday and Sunday) with the possibility of informed tastings of spirits such as grappa, liqueurs, brandy, bitters, gin, bitters, and fruit liqueurs. An experiential opportunity is also provided by the guided tours (by reservation) organized on both days to access, in addition to the Historic Park with the Votive Chapel La Rotonda (1808) and the Garden, also the Piazzale delle Vinacce, the Distillery, the Aging Cellar, and the Galleria della Grappa taking a 360-degree journey from the materia prima to the final packaging of the Piedmontese distillate. The tour also includes guided tasting sessions, allowing visitors to learn the most correct tasting techniques and the most suitable glasses for best appreciating young and aged spirits. Food lovers will have the opportunity to savor the menus offered by the Materia Prima, also requesting a tasting menu featuring spirits and culinary specialties. On Sunday, there will also be the opportunity to taste Italian cigars in collaboration with the ADT Club. New this year is the opportunity to combine the guided tours with special aperitifs, allowing a more informed introduction to the world of local mixology, offering drinks based on spirits produced in Monferrato and paired with flavors interpreted by the chef. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature two events, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, combining a guided tour and a special aperitif featuring cocktails made in Monferrato. All events are scheduled in all weather conditions and require advance reservations.
