Let the 177th distilling season begin! As October approaches and the "Piemonte Grappa – Alla Corte dell'Alambicco" event, Mazzetti d’Altavilla, a historic company operating since 1846 in the UNESCO-listed hills of Monferrato, is preparing to revive the ancient ritual of distilling with the reopening of its production facilities where "made in Piedmont" spirits will be expertly crafted. The event, promoted for Sunday, October 1st by the Consortium for the Protection of Grappa del Piemonte and Grappa di Barolo, shines a spotlight on the world of distillation, offering guided tours, tastings, and various events at Piedmontese producers. Among these is Mazzetti d’Altavilla, atop the hill of Altavilla Monferrato, which, on its journey toward two hundred years of uninterrupted business (now run by the sixth and seventh generations), will open the doors of its historic headquarters (formerly a monastery) to welcome enthusiasts and newcomers, spreading awareness and culture of distillation.
What can guests expect at the event at Viale Unità d'Italia 2? The Casa della Grappa will be open as usual from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm, presenting the vast array of Piedmontese spirits through guided tastings of the many facets of grappa. From young grappas to reserves, through barrel-aged grappas, and not forgetting brandies, liqueurs, gins, amari, bitters, and other seasonal delicacies: a variety of specialties also available in gift packages , ready for the upcoming gift season with solutions that showcase local productions. To celebrate the culture of distillation, several multi-sensory guided tours (reservations required, please call +39 0142 926147). During these tours, you can breathe in the aromas of the pomace, experience the alchemy of the stills firsthand, and learn about the best tasting techniques. The café, located in the charming basement cellar, will be open, and there will also be the opportunity to taste Italian cigars in collaboration with the ADT Club, which will have its own stand on site. Finally, for those who love the Monferrato panoramas, there will be the opportunity (also by reservation) to take exclusive tours up to the Panoramic Tower , where you can learn about the area's fascinating history and enjoy the panoramic view from the historic building's 27-meter height.
October 1st Mazzetti d’Altavilla will be just the beginning of a busy autumn of events: on Sunday, October 15th, the special opening will return for "Chocolate in Monferrato," while on Friday, October 20th, the panoramic events floor will host the show "Radici" as part of "Vignale in Danza 2023," with themed pairings. On Friday, October 27th and Saturday, October 28th, the company will open its doors to the public for " Factories Open," while throughout the autumn, tastings will be available seven days a week and (by reservation) guided tours will be available... as well as dinners and lunches (from Friday evening to Sunday lunch) at the in-house "Materia Prima" restaurant, also available for business or leisure events. Another experiential autumn offer, scheduled on specific dates, will be the "Day in the Distillery": an opportunity to learn more about the secrets of the trade, spent in the company of the Master Distiller.
