The village of Altavilla Monferrato is preparing to host autumn's most delicious ingredient: chocolate. Sunday, October 17th sees the return of "Chocolate in Monferrato," a day to be spent, from dawn to dusk, celebrating one of Piedmont's and Italy's most prized delicacies. Chocolate will not only be the star of the many displays taking place along the town's streets, but it will also reign supreme among the most popular pairings, such as the inevitable pairing with local spirits. That's why the historic Mazzetti d’Altavilla will open its doors at Viale Unità d'Italia 2 for a day of discovery of the art of grappa and its many ways to enjoy it, celebrating the 175th anniversary of the company, run by the sixth and seventh generations of the Mazzetti family. Casa della Grappa, a former monastery, from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm , offering a wide range of art, culture, food and wine, and local specialties. These include free pairings of spirits with a selection of fine chocolates from Piedmontese brand Baratti & Milano. Various types are available, such as Napolitains with milk, 70%, 70% with cocoa nibs, and 70% with coffee nibs, all to be discovered in their finest pairings with spirits made from the freshest pomace of Piedmontese grapes. During the day, visitors can also enjoy delicious breakfasts in the café and visits to the Votive Chapel "La Rotonda" and the photographic exhibition "Monferrato in the Spirit," dedicated to the area's particularly attractive sites. guided tours of the distillery , allowing you to witness the art of distillation firsthand. Furthermore, the charming Barricaia will host, starting at 10:00 a.m., the traveling photography exhibition "Sacro & Monferrato," dedicated to the rural churches that rise in the hills of Basso Monferrato, organized by Monferrato Tourist and GFM Gruppo Fotografi Monferrini. The unusual setting of the Aging Cellar, dominated by the colors and scents of the wood in which the spirit becomes a "meditation wine," will provide the backdrop for a photographic journey through the small country churches in the area where the pomace distilled at Mazzetti d’Altavilla. It's an opportunity to admire places not always well-known to the general public, yet powerfully embodying meanings of faith and historical memory through art, landscape, and tradition. It also invites you to continue your visit with a firsthand exploration of the various buildings scattered across the gentle slopes of Monferrato.
