Not just wineries... but also a distillery is opening its doors in Monferrato for the return of Cantine Aperte, an event promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino (Wine Tourism Movement) , which will once again kick off on Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, May 29th. The "cocktail" served by Mazzetti d’Altavilla over the two days atop the hill of Altavilla Monferrato (AL) includes some special ingredients: an ancient monastery, the view of the UNESCO hills, and a 176-year-old distilling tradition. At the grappa shop on Viale Unità d'Italia 2, two days of guided tours will take place to delve into the world of locally sourced spirits, from the materia prima to the drop to be tasted. Grappa lovers will be guided through the various production areas, from the pomace yard to the production facilities, from the barrel cellar to the Galleria della Grappa, to learn the secrets of the centuries-old art of distillation. The Cantine Aperte program at Mazzetti d’Altavilla includes the opening of the premises on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May from 9am to 12:30pm and from 3pm to 6:30pm. It is possible to sign up for various guided tours (each with a limited number of places and with the possibility of joining until the maximum number of places is reached). Reservations can be made by calling 0142 926147. The format of guided tastings , allowing the public to sample zero-mile spirits along the route outside the Grappa Store. There will also be space for art and the local area: during the Cantine Aperte weekend, the Votive Chapel "La Rotonda". This circular religious building, dedicated to Santa Maria Ausiliatrice and dating back to 1808, houses a large stone cross in its basement, illuminated for an even more evocative appearance. The church is located within the historic park of the ancient monastery, which has become the home of the distillery. The distillery also hosts the photographic exhibition "Monferrato in the Spirit," dedicated to the tourist attractions in this corner of Monferrato. During opening hours, guests can also enjoy free tastings of various Mazzetti spirits. Reservations are still available (subject to availability) for Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch at the Materia Prima , where the seasonal and local tasting menu can optionally be accompanied by a spirits tasting menu.
will also host Casa della Grappa the Italian Cigar tasting station, in collaboration with the ADT Club, for all enthusiasts and the curious.
During the holidays, the Grappa Store will be open for purchases, including gift-wrapped items, and to view the latest Mazzetti products.
Among the events planned in Mazzetti d’Altavilla is the celebration dedicated to Santa Maria Ausiliatrice at the Votive Chapel La Rotonda, scheduled for 5.30 pm on Thursday 26 May and open to the public.
