Mazzetti D’Altavilla: Grappa Goes Green with the Environmental Eco Calculator
The valorization of local grape marc, the reuse of accessories, the use of natural energy and the new Grappario printed on recycled paper with the environmental eco calculator: Mazzetti d’Altavilla strengthens its all-round green positioning.
Altavilla, July 5 , 2017 – This year's annual collection from the historic Piedmontese grappa producer is presented with an exclusive work: Grappassion , a grappa book packed with information on the history of grappa and its pairings, with a particular focus on preserving the values of nature. Grappassion tells the story of Made in Italy in the wine sector and of a family that has been producing grappa since 1846, focusing on the region and innovation, while preserving tradition intact. Mazzetti offers this to all grappa enthusiasts.
Mazzetti d’Altavilla has also decided to be sustainable with this book, printing it using innovative Stone Paper , made from stone dust, and recycled Cocoon paper , in two different types to create different tactile and visual sensations. This choice, combined with the use of Due Emme Pack 's Eco Calculator, allows Mazzetti to share concrete data on its eco-sustainability. The Eco Calculator is an exclusive tool that measures the savings in raw materials (waste, water, electricity, wood), avoided CO2 emissions , and the resulting environmental benefits resulting from the choice to print on recycled paper rather than virgin fiber paper. The decision to print all first thousand copies of Grappassion on recycled paper rather than virgin fiber paper saved 2,635 kg of wood, equivalent to saving 23 trees; 57,410 liters of water, equivalent to the consumption of a family of three over three months; 1,621 kg of waste, equivalent to the average waste produced by a family of three in a year; and 223 kg of CO2, equivalent to the 1,363 km traveled by a Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 petrol with emissions of 139 g CO2/km, equivalent to the kilometers saved by four cars on the Milan-Rome route.
And the Ecocalculator is destined to become a best practice to be renewed every year to communicate environmental savings that will not only be confirmed in subsequent editions of Grappassion but also in other corporate uses such as pendants.
For environmental sustainability Mazzetti d’Altavilla is a philosophical choice that is implemented in all aspects of the company, starting with the grappas with the "puntozero" line, which highlights native grape varieties and "km 0" pomace, thanks to which costs and, above all, the environmental impact have been reduced by reducing transportation, while simultaneously creating a product that best expresses the qualities of the "terroir". The labels for this line are also printed on FSC-certified paper. Added to this is the new addition of the three Grappa 3.0 , marked with the green Greenery logo . The new collection is the result of an intense commitment to the new frontiers of pairing and eco - sustainability : with the hashtag #riutilizzami, practical and original suggestions have been introduced for giving new life to crates, decanters, cylinders and everything that makes up the grappa packaging, with accessories ready to become unexpected flower holders or cases for sewing kits or ties.
Eco-sustainability has also been developed within the company with the introduction of zero-impact photovoltaic systems , which allow for full energy self-sufficiency and have led to a 58% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions . The remaining energy requirement is also produced from renewable sources, thanks to " Verde Dentro ," the energy supply guaranteed by TÜV Sud, which certifies its origin from certified wind and hydroelectric plants. Due Emme Pack has been operating in the paper industry since 1990, playing a strategic role between paper mills and printers.
