MAZZETTI D’ALTAVILLA175TH ANNIVERSARY? CELEBRATING A RICH HALL OF AWARDS

A special birthday deserves an equally special gift. Indeed, many gifts... like the medals that Mazzetti d’Altavilla is celebrating in 2021, marking the 175th anniversary of the company's founding in the hills of Monferrato. This milestone, while looking back at the seven generations dedicated to passing down the art of distillation, also looks directly into the future, always aiming for new goals. The abacus of awards given in 2021 to the grappa factory founded in 1846 is truly exceptional: the record five awards obtained at the 2021 edition of the “ L'Alambicco d'Oro ” Competition stands out, a result never achieved in living memory and made possible by the four Gold medals and one Silver awarded by the evaluation commission of the ANAG (National Association of Grappa Tasters): the “gold” badge went to the 7.0 Grappa di Ruchè Barricata 100% Cru , to the Brandy Italiano Mazzetti Aged 27 Years and to the Grappa Riserve Incanto (obtained from Barbaresco pomace) and Alba (a blend of Barolo and Erbaluce) while silver is coloured for the Grappa di Malvasia from the Radici line, in its first participation in a national competition since its creation in 2020 to promote a native Monferrato grape variety with extremely limited production such as Malvasia di Casorzo. In recent days, the Brandy Italiano Mazzetti Aged 35 Years was awarded the " Platinum " prize by The WineHunter Award 2021 , a competition promoted as part of the Merano Wine Festival that rewarded the commitment to the creation of wine distillates of great poetry such as this brandy, which was aged between 1984 and 2019, spanning three generations of Mazzetti distillers. But the South Tyrolean competition also awarded the Liquirizia Mazzetti liqueur and Grappa di Barolo Riserva the " Gold " recognition and the Bitter Mazzetti the " Red " seal , extending the Original, including ancient spirits and liqueur recipes. A great tribute to Mazzetti also came from the line Bibenda selection , the prestigious guide (2022 edition), which brought two of the Piedmontese grappa producers' Reserves to the podium: Incanto (Barbaresco) and Segni (Barolo and Dolcetto), which will appear in the renowned collection thanks to the " 5 Grappoli " award. And it is once again the aromatic Grappa di Malvasia that triumphs in the 2022 " Spirito Autoctono " guide , which adds a point in favor of the young, zero-mile, pure spirit from the Radici line, which at the beginning of 2021 was also a finalist in the Barawards 2020 in the section dedicated to Beverage products, nominated for " Innovation of the Year ". But the 175th anniversary is celebrated not only with awards for spirits but also for hospitality: both the Grappa Store Mazzetti and the Restaurant Materia Prima , both located at the Altavilla Monferrato site, have been awarded the Q "Ospitalità Italiana" seal promoted by the Alessandria-Asti Chamber of Commerce, meeting the hospitality standards required by the regulations and thus crowning the efforts in the tourism and restaurant sectors, which this autumn are reaping significant growth thanks to guided tours, tasting menus that can also be combined with spirits tastings, and the constant opening (seven days a week) of the shop.
