Piedmontese spirits on the podium at “The International Wine & Spirit Competition”
“Balanced and incredibly captivating, floral as well as earthy – that balance between bitterness and honeyed sweetness is excellent. Rhubarb, redcurrant and honey, structured and well-crafted.” With these words the British tasters of the IWSC Competition awarded the Bitter Mazzetti, the “Piedmontese” aperitif based on a recipe by Mazzetti d’Altavilla that won the Gold Medal at the 2022 edition of “The International Wine & Spirit Competition”.
At the competition across the Channel, the historic grappa factory based at the top of the Altavilla Monferrato hill had a landslide victory, bringing three medals to Monferrato out of three spirits entered (more than 4,000 products entered into the competition, coming from over 90 countries around the world).
In addition to the "Gold" for the Bitter – reintroduced for several years with the suggestion of enjoying it neat or mixed in the classic Negroni, the Americano or in an innovative Spritz – the IWSC awarded the silver badgeto AmaroAmaro Gentile Mazzetti for its "strong aroma of broom, hazelnut... chocolate and some subtle bitter notes on the finish." A digestive whose demand has grown significantly in just a few years also due to its curious versatility, capable of transforming it into an original aperitif or a substitute for vermouth in the preparation of the Negroni. Last but not least... the medal for the 7.0 – Grappa di Ruchè Barricata 100% Cru: a grappa capable of convincing the English market was a must and the 7.0 proved to be just the right one, showing itself "smooth on the palate with delicious grape flavors and a fascinating spicy hazelnut finish."
"With 7.0 ," commented Chiara, Silvia and Elisa Belvedere Mazzetti, aka the new Mazzetti generation, " Monferrato is also being exported, introducing one of the most distinctive grape varieties of this land to an audience perhaps more accustomed to other spirits... a medal that takes on an even more significant value in our journey of continuous promotion of the territory, which in 2022 will see us reach new milestones with the birth of a new "Cru" reserve grappa. This will be a distillate capable of enhancing the inimitable sensory notes coming from the pomace of a characteristic Monferrato grape variety grown in its oldest vineyard."
