Blending this Piedmontese spirit is the theme chosen for the 2018/19 Artistic Calendar of Mazzetti d’Altavilla – Distillatori dal 1846 , which is being published to coincide with the “Grappe Aperte” event on Sunday, October 7th. With the arrival of autumn, the tradition of the almanac is renewed, which has the particularity of following the distillation season, starting in October with the start of the stills and concluding in September 2019 on the eve of a new vintage. "As the fresh and fragrant Piedmontese pomace reaches the top of the Altavilla Monferrato hill ," explains Chiara, Silvia , and Elisa Belvedere Mazzetti " our gaze turns forward, toward a bright future for the Piedmontese spirit. We like to imagine an increasingly informed and versatile use, a meeting between our timeless spirit, the authenticity of the territory, and new trends. The new calendar is therefore dedicated to mixology, a world to which we have dedicated much energy through meetings, experimentation, and a great deal of conviction."
The spotlight is thus turned on a zero-mile mixology that utilizes the many nuances of the universe of perfumes and aromas of "Piedmont in the Spirit," allowing us to take a journey through twelve young bartenders who have lent their creativity and mastery to the blending of grappas, wine spirits, brandies, and liqueurs.
“They are the new ambassadors of our distillate – add the young Mazzetti sisters – through an ingenuity capable of creating the fashion image of Piedmontese spirits and spreading an innovative lifestyle.”
The journey of the Calendar unfolds through twelve different drinks, from pre-dinner to after-dinner, and is also accompanied by an unusual itinerary of twelve lounge bars, hotels and high-end restaurants, which takes you to visit, accompanied by the persuasive aromas of Piedmontese distillates, all the provinces and corners of Piedmont, from the historic Savoy capital of Turin, up to other cities, the lakes, the UNESCO hills. Here are the names of barladies and barmen, the cocktails and the places where the cocktails were studied and photographed: Stefano Armiento (drink “Fog in the Morning” at the KioskoStiss Cocktail Bar in Viverone, Biella), Samuel Donniacuo (“Grappa Tonic” at Edit, Turin), Stefano Zanetta (“Giostra nel Bosco” at Hotel Ristorante Vittoria in Santhià, Vercelli), Nicolò Raviglione (“Mazzetti di Camomilla” at La Lira Restaurant and Lounge Bar in Biella), Nicola Mancinone (“Amarcord”, Il Confessionale for Terrazza Alta Langa, Tra la terra e il cielo in Moasca, Asti), Mirko Turconi (“Piemon-tai-s”, at Piano 35 Lounge Bar in Turin), Leandro Cedeno (“El Cafetero”, at Galì food & drink in Cuneo), Camila Paim Spriano (“Koela 2.0”, at Koela Cafè, Alessandria), Marco Riccetti ("Bambun," Inside Restaurant & Cocktail Bar, Turin), Maurizio Sironi ("La Contadina," Fluid on the Road for Ago Cafè, Novara), Micaela Contini ("Bitter is better," Sky Bar at Hotel La Palma in Stresa, Verbania), and Luigi Barberis ("Apple Brandy," Caffè dei Mercanti in Acqui Terme, Alessandria).
"A huge thank you ," concludes the younger generation of Casa Mazzetti, " goes to the protagonists for embracing this project and to the skilled lens of photographer Paolo Bernardotti , who captured these moments and faces. Finally, thanks go to all the friends of Casa Mazzetti who, month after month, will browse this calendar, tempted by the enticing invitation to become spokespeople for the art of mixology with 100% Piedmontese spirits."
The images of the drinks, accompanied by the names and images of their creators and a list of ingredients, will be on display on Sunday, October 7th in the Casa Mazzetti Gallery in the new exhibition dedicated to “Piedmont in the Spirit,” which adds to the “open-air” photography itinerary featuring images taken in the UNESCO landscape by the twelve photographers selected for the 2017/18 Artistic Calendar.
