The famous Monferrato brand joins the ranks of long-standing Made in Italy brands
and high quality today present in 8 regions of Italy, from Piedmont to Sicily
Another highly prestigious brand, over a century old—synonymous with excellence in the grappa and spirits sector for over 170 years—has joined the Unione Imprese Storiche Italiane (Union of Italian Historic Companies), the association that since 2000 has brought together the most enduring and reliable Made in Italy brands.
This is Mazzetti d’Altavilla – Distillatori dal 1846 of Altavilla Monferrato (Alessandria), the most historic grappa factory in the Northwest and one of the oldest in all of Italy, which every year distills the freshest pomace of the noblest Piedmontese grape varieties, thus becoming an expression of a territory and of zero-mile grappas.
The company—now led by the sixth and seventh generations (the latter consisting of the young Chiara, Silvia , and Elisa Belvedere Mazzetti)—is renowned for its fine young and aged spirits, reserves, brandies, grape brandies, and liqueurs, available in the finest Italian and international shops. The historic headquarters in the heart of Monferrato are full of charm, including the "170 Years of Grappa" Art Gallery (inaugurated in 2016 to mark the company's important milestone) and the "La Rotonda" Votive Chapel, a splendid architectural gem located in the Historic Park and dating back to 1808, restored at the behest of the Mazzetti family. The elegant cellar of the Magione Mazzetti d’Altavilla, the emotional Galleria della Grappa, the evocative Barricaia and the Distillery are other spaces capable of enchanting visitors from all over the world who, seven days a week, reach the top of the Altavilla Monferrato hill for fascinating guided tours and sensory tastings.
Mazzetti d’Altavilla 1846 is the second brand in the high-quality spirits sector to join the Union of Italian Historic Companies, following Poli Distillerie 1898 of Schiavon (Vicenza), and the third Piedmontese representative of the association, alongside Cesare Verona Magister Scripturae 1889 of Turin (registered for the Aurora brand) and Fratelli Piacenza 1733 of Pollone, Biella. Currently, 45 historic companies from eight Italian regions (Piedmont, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Campania, Puglia, Calabria, and Sicily) make up the Union.
